On the eve of World AIDS day, a United Nations report has delivered the news that the global AIDS epidemic is stabilising.
The number of new HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths continues to decline as medical developments allow people to live with the disease.
While Australia's figures pale in comparison to those of many other countries, over 17,000 people live with HIV or AIDS.
'We're fortunate enough to have very low infection rates,' Terina Stibbard from Childfund Australia said. 'However we have a generation who hasn't had access to good campaigns and awareness.
'I think we really need to start ramping up our response to prevention and awareness campaigns to ensure that we don't actually have an increase in infection and marginalise groups as a result.'
