Thousands of people have flocked to a zoo in northern Thailand for the first public viewing of a baby panda.

The cub was born six weeks ago after her mother was artificially inseminated.

Her arrival came after years of attempts to breed the rare mammal at the Chiang Mai Zoo.

A public competition to name the cub drew more than half a million entries.

The name will be chosen next month.
