Police have found a gun after two separate shootings in Sydney's west, which have left one man dead and another injured.

A 31-year-old man was shot while standing outside a house at Blackett after one o'clock yesterday afternoon.

It's understood he'd been speaking with someone at the Boldrewood Road home before he was shot, and died at the scene.

A sawn-off shotgun was found in a nearby drain by police searching the area. The gun will be forensically examined.

Meantime, a 21-year-old man was shot in the leg outside his Bidwill home, also in Sydney's west, just before midday yesterday.

It's understood he was attacked outside the Hinkler Grove home after police received a road rage report.

He was taken to Mount Druitt hospital, and has since been released.

Police hope to speak to him once he's well enough.
