South Australian man Navarone Hutchins, whose body was found on a dirt track in the state's southeast this week, suffered a violent death, police say.
The 23-year-old's body was found on Emu Flat Road on Tuesday about five kilometres from Keith.
He had been missing from his Keith home since last week.
Police returned to the scene on Wednesday to search the area with the help of local volunteers.
Detective Inspector Mark Trenwith said a post mortem examination was yet to confirm the cause of Mr Hutchins' death.
'This is a particularly violent crime and we are most concerned about it,' he said.
'The State Emergency Service is currently finishing a detailed search of the crime scene but no evidence has been located.'
Insp Trenwith said Mr Hutchins was a popular local with no criminal history.
The investigation into his murder includes door knocking local homes, speaking with friends and associates and checking video from local businesses.
The dead man was last seen on Friday night after leaving a property in Keith to head to the local hotel.
'You can imagine his family are distraught about what has occurred,' Insp Trenwith said.
'We believe someone in Keith knows what happened to Mr Hutchins.'
