Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the government's road funding levels.
Mr Albanese says the federal government had doubled the roads budget, with the Hume Highway duplication and work continuing on the Pacific Highway.
The frontbencher brushed aside concerns from the Australian Automobile Association that one in six federal roads are inadequate and not enough of the fuel excise is spent on roads.
He told Sky News the Pacific Highway funding had always been set on a 50/50 basis established by the coalition.
