Three asylum-seekers are refusing to end a rooftop protest at Sydney's Villawood immigration detention centre despite hours of negotiations.
A Department of Immigration spokeswoman confirmed three Fijian nationals were involved and the security company that runs the facility, Serco, is managing the situation.
She says none of the detainees involved were irregular maritime arrivals and the protest action would not affect the outcome of their visa applications.
Ian Rintoul of the Refugee Action Coalition says the protest is a desperate act by a Fijian woman facing deportation.
