A search has resumed for a woman whose canoe overturned in rapids on the Murray River in southern NSW.

The 24-year-old woman and her mother were paddling in separate canoes near Khancoban, east of Albury, when the younger woman's canoe capsized yesterday afternoon.

The woman, from Box Hill in Victoria, went underwater and didn't resurface.

Police from NSW and Victoria have launched a search and are being helped by volunteers from the State Emergency Service and Volunteer Rescue Association.
