New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrell has told Prime Minister Julia Gillard the flood crisis in the north of his state is far from over, as hundreds of Moree residents return to their water-damaged homes and businesses.

Canberra has offered help, and Mr O'Farrell has warned the prime minister the crisis could continue for months, as floodwaters from Queensland flow through the Darling system, amid predictions the water will reach Bourke only in early March.

Meanwhile, Qantas put on a special flight to Moree carrying fruit, vegetables, bread and milk for flood-affected farmers.
