A 42-year-old Sydney brothel owner has been charged with human trafficking offences following raids by Federal Police last night.

They were tipped off by the Salvation Army, that had learned of the women's situation and contacted them with suspicions they were being held against their will.

AFP officers raided five Sydney premises overnight, including a brothel at Guildford, in Sydney's west.

Human Trafficking chief Glyn Lewis said the young victims had been referred to the Australian Red Cross' trafficking victims program.

"It's our belief that these women were trafficked from Thailand under sexual exploitation conditions by this brothel owner," Mr Lewis told reporters in Sydney on Thursday.

The man has been charged with a series of offences, including human trafficking, conducting a business that involves sexual servitude, and allowing people to work in breach of their visa conditions.

The Sydney man, of Chinese-Cambodian background, was granted bail and will face court at Sydney's Downing Centre on February 14.

His charges carry a total maximum imprisonment of 25 years.
