Gadgets magazine T3 has started its annual search for the best gadgets of the year - and is asking the public to help decide the outcome.
To begin the process, T3 has unveiled its awards microsite, which reveals the long lists for all 18 categories.
Gadget fans are being invited to vote in each category, and once the long lists have been whittled down, a group of expert judges will gather to pick the winners.
The panel includes Sky News presenter Martin Stanford.
Gadget of the Year is expected to be hotly contested once again, and the initial candidates include Sony's X Series Walkman, TomTom's GO 940 and Apple's iPhone 3G S.
Other categories this year include Green Gadget, Game of the Year and Gadget You Can't Live Without, while new categories for 2009 include Best Work Gadget and Best New Media Service.
T3 editor Michael Brook said: 'The announcement of the long list is really important for us, as this is where we can get some serious feedback from our readers as to what they think were the highs and lows of tech 2009.
'This is our readers' chance to give credit where it's due, and also to show which tech isn't living up to the hype. Our combination of reader votes and expert opinion makes this one seriously important event for tech brands.'
