Jones sets world record in Berlin

Australia's Leisel Jones has broken the 200-metre breaststroke short-course world record at the FINA World Cup meet in Berlin.

Jones clocked 2:15.42 on Sunday and broke the mark of 2:16.83 set by Annamay Pierse of Canada in Leeds, England, on August 7.

South African Darian Townsend clocked 1:51.55 in the 200m individual medley to beat Michael Phelps and break the mark of 1:51.56 set by Ryan Lochte of the United States in Manchester, England, on April 11, 2008.

Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa clocked 55.61 seconds in the 100m breaststroke to break the mark of 55.99 he swam in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa on August 9.

Paul Biedermann of Germany clocked 1 minute, 39.37 seconds to shatter his previous 200m freestyle short-course world record of 1:40.83 which he set at the same meet one year ago.

Jessica Hardy of the United States clocked 28.80 seconds in the 50m breaststroke to break the mark of 28.96 she set at another meet in Stockholm four days ago.

Shiho Sakai of Japan clocked 55.23 seconds in the 100m backstroke to break the mark of 56.15 she set in Tokyo on February 22.

Russian Evgeny Korotyshkin recorded a time of 48.48 seconds in the 100m butterfly to break the mark of 48.99 he swam in Moscow one week ago.

Liu Zige of China clocked 2:00.78 in the 200m butterfly to break the mark of 2:02.50 she set in Stockholm four days ago.
