Independent MP Rob Oakeshott says the coalition should fulfil its promise to support a code of conduct for parliamentarians.
Mr Oakeshott will be seeking a vote on the conduct code next Thursday during the parliament sitting.
He says the issue needs to be resolved, particularly in the wake of scandals surrounding former Labor MP Craig Thomson and former Liberal MP and speaker Peter Slipper.
Mr Oakeshott concedes a code would have been unlikely to sort out Peter Slipper or Craig Thomson, but says the issues around both elevate the need for better parliamentary standards, and a code of conduct.
