The seats of former South Australian premier Mike Rann and his long-time former deputy Kevin Foley are up for grabs in by-elections today.

The pair announced their retirements last year.

Mr Rann's seat of Ramsay is Labor's safest one in South Australia and Labor candidate Zoe Bettinson is expected to retain it.

Mr Foley's Port Adelaide seat will be tougher for Labor candidate Susan Close, but she's still likely to win despite some strong independent competition.
