NSW farmers want the state government to use an upcoming primary industries meeting to secure a protection package against future drought.
NSW Farmers President Fiona Simson says Friday's Standing Council of Primary Industries meeting, between NSW Primary Industries Katrina Hodgkinson and her federal, state and territory counterparts, should be used to help farmers manage extreme weather conditions.
Ms Simson says farm businesses need a drought package that'll ensure their sustainability in times of extreme conditions, so they can get back on their feet as soon as possible.
Australia has been declared drought-free for the first time in a decade, but farmers are calling on the government to take a proactive approach to severe and long-term drought.
