A former Victorian prison guard is suing the Department of Justice over workplace bullying, claiming it has left him depressed and unable to work.
The former guard says he was subjected to verbal abuse, bullying and psychological harassment by other workers at the Langi Kal Kal prison in central Victoria.
The 53-year-old, who has worked as a prison officer since 1995, says the harassment started in 2007 and put him out of work from mid 2009.
He is suing the Victorian government and Department of Justice for damages for failing to provide a safe workplace.
The alleged victimisation left the guard suffering from severe adjustment disorder, depression, anxiety and sleeping problems, according to a writ filed in the Victorian Supreme Court.
Comment was being sought from the Department of Justice.
