Freed photo-journalist Nigel Brennan has been reunited with his mother in Kenya, after 15 months in captivity in Somalia.
Mr Brennan is seeking medical care in a Nairobi hospital, after suffering physical and psychological abuse from Somali rebels.
The 39-year-old has lost 10 kilos but doctors say he is in good shape.
Mr Brennan and his Canadian colleague Amanda Lindhout were released last week after a ransom was paid to their captors.
Mr Brennan is expected to return to Australia later this week.
