A Border Protection Command has intercepted a boat with 22 suspected asylum seekers on board near West Islet, Ashmore Islands.
ACV Ashmore Guardian, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted the vessel at 1:30 pm (AEDT).
Initial indications suggest 22 passengers and 4 crew are on board the vessel.
The group will be transferred to Christmas Island where they will undergo security, identity and health checks and their reasons for travel will be established.
