Australia may be facing a 'silent epidemic' of heart disease, according to medical experts.
A report published in the Medical Journal of Australia said one third of 14-year-olds were at increased future risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes or stroke.
West Australian researchers also found 25% of eight-year-olds had an increased risk of future obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Rae-Chi Huang, the study's co-author Rae-Chi Huang at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, said it wouldn't be exaggerated to call the findings an epidemic.
