The LNP will soon announce a plan it says will better help Queensland rural communities vulnerable to flooding.

Mr Newman told a Queensland Rural Press Club lunch in Brisbane on Friday the party would soon announce a plan to reduce flooding in rural and regional communities.

'In coming weeks, we will detail our floodplain security program,' Mr Newman said.

'I think we can put a realistic plan on the table that will allow us to go to the Commonwealth and to local government with a funding model that will deliver flood mitigation for many Queensland communities.'

He also revisited previously announced LNP rural policies, including creating a department devoted to agricultural research and development and plans to ban coal seam gas activities in the Scenic Rim region.

Mr Newman said the LNP was serious about delivering services for the bush.

'That's why we are going to double patient travel and accommodation subsidies,' he said.
