The federal government is appealing for global help in its bid to get the world's biggest, and most powerful radio telescope, built in WA.
Called the Square Kilometre Array, it will costs $2.5 billion and will help scientists discover the deepest secrets of the universe.
The Minister for Science and Research, Chris Evans will visit China and Italy in the coming weeks to promote a bid by Australia to have the largest telescope in the world built in WA.
South Africa is also in contention to host the giant telescope.
'This is a massive scientific project that would have huge spin-offs in computing, in data storage in a whole range of other sciences,' he told the ABC.
