Federal Resources and Energy Minister Martin Ferguson says unions should be careful not to kill the the oil and gas industry golden goose.
Mr Ferguson's warning came as he attended a ground breaking ceremony for the massive Gorgon gas project at Barrow Island near Karratha yesterday.
West Australian premier Colin Barnett kicked off the 43-billion dollar project with a ceremonial ground-breaking.
Construction of the plant will create 10,000 jobs and $300 billion in revenue.
Operations should start in four years with domestic gas production planned by the end of 2015.
Gorgon's ceremony also coincided with a strike at Woodside Petroleum's nearby Pluto gas project over new motel-style accommodation arrangements for fly-in, fly-out workers.
