Plans to build a nuclear waste dump in the Northern Territory have been given a boost after a deal was struck between the ALP and the Liberal Party.

A spokesman for Liberal senator Nigel Scullion has confirmed a deal worth at least 10 million dollars annually to the region that accepted the facility has been reached by the senator and the federal government.

The only site being looked at for the dump is at Muckaty Station, near Tennant Creek, and that means the deal would see the NT secure funding worth at least 10 million dollars annually for new health infrastructure.

The deal means the contentious bill allowing the dump, currently being debated in the senate, is almost certain to pass through parliament.
