Another four days have been added to the royal commission looking into a possibly botched water release strategy for Wivenhoe Dam.
Commissioner Justice Cate Holmes said on Sunday she would allow two additional days for counsel to prepare submissions and a further two days for the submissions to be made to the inquiry.
Nine extra days of the inquiry were originally scheduled to investigate allegations that the four engineers who controlled Wivenhoe Dam botched the water releases, caused unnecessary flooding in January 2011 and had earlier misled the inquiry over what water-release strategies they were working under.
Justice Holmes said the final submissions would be made on Monday and Tuesday week, bringing to 11 the number of extra sitting days.
However, she said extending the reopened inquiry would not affect her handing down the final report on March 16 - eight days before the state election.
'I don't think we will be able to reach submission this week,' Justice Holmes told the inquiry.
'My view is that the better course is to take the weekend for preparation for submissions and set aside Monday and Tuesday to hear final submissions.
'It won't make any difference to the eventual date of March 16.'
