Thousands of fans have turned out for Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson's only show at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.
About 4000 people packed out Tamworth's Bicentennial Park on Wednesday night to see the married duo perform their open-air show.
The couple told the crowd the free show was a thank you to all their loyal Tamworth fans who had paid for gigs for so many years.
'We wanted to say thank you by giving it back for free this time,' Chambers told the crowd.
'But it's going to cost you double next year,' Nicholson joked.
The couple then divulged the real reason for the free gig.
'The main reason we're doing it is it doesn't matter how bad we play tonight, you can't ask for your money back,' Chambers said.
They began the show performing together and sharing anecdotes of their lives with the crowd.
'It wasn't a love at first sight story or anything,' Chambers said of their meeting.
'It couldn't be,' Nicholson chimed in.
'When Kasey and I first met she was eight months pregnant with some other bloke's baby.'
The couple sang several songs individually from their solo albums and joined up on stage to perform songs from their collaborative work, including their first ever track Rattlin' Bones.
Chambers wooed the crowd with her solo track Not Pretty Enough.
The pair are nominated for five Golden Guitars at this year's Country Music Awards of Australia for their album Wreck Ruin.
The awards will be held at the Tamworth Country Music Festival on Saturday, January 26.
