Channel Seven has confirmed Kerri-Anne Kennerley will star in a new prime time television project in 2012.

In a statement released on Sunday, Seven has welcomed the TV legend to the network and has announced the 58-year-old will also feature on some of their established shows, including Dancing with the Stars.

'Kerri-Anne is of one of TV's most enduring and well-loved presenters. She will bring a ton of energy and fun to the Network, and we are already building an extension on her dressing room to fit her shoe collection,' Seven's Head of Production, Brad Lyons said.

Kennerley, who was dumped by Channel Nine late last year, says she's 'thrilled and genuinely excited to be joining Seven.'

'I can't wait for the new show later in the year, as well as new dance steps to learn .. watch out Peter Costello! I am really looking forward to meeting my dancing partner. Hope he doesn't need a block and tackle to lift me! What a year ahead' she said.

Earlier Kennerley took a swipe against the Nine Network.

'When people are under stress they don't always do things as you would expect them to do things and there's no denying that those Channel Nine executives are under high stress,' she told News Limited.

'There are a few parallels between (Nine) and the Costa Concordia: they veer off course, hit the rocks, try to right themselves and sink and the captain gets off first, so let's see how their year pans out.'
