Nine's attempt to take on Seven's The Morning Show didn't quite hit the mark with Mornings' premiere episode still lagging behind in the ratings.

Like its predecessor hosted by Kerri-Anne Kennerley, Mornings rated outside the top 100 and, with an audience of 104,000, was a long way behind Seven's The Morning Show with 166,000 viewers.

However, the new-look show with Sonia Kruger and David Campbell as hosts still managed to beat Ten's The Circle, which had 51,000 viewers.

Before the show went to air Kruger said she was feeling relaxed about the ratings as television bosses tended to be a bit more patient with daytime programs.

'In prime time you have three weeks to rate but you don't have that pressure in daytime television,' she told AAP.

'Daytime shows are given a lot longer to settle in.'

Meanwhile, in the breakfast show battle for the ratings Seven's Sunrise narrowly beat Nine's Today program with audiences of 345,000 and 328,000 respectively, putting them in 32nd and 33rd positions overall.
